Principal’s Message

Dear Discovery Families,

Welcome to the 2026–2027 school year!

Whether you are returning to Discovery or joining our Explorer family for the very first time, I am thrilled to welcome you to what promises to be another extraordinary year of learning, growth, and opportunity.

As we begin this new school year together, we have so much to celebrate. The Florida Department of Education has officially recognized Discovery Middle School as an "A" School once again for the 2025–2026 school year, a distinction that reflects the incredible work of our students, staff, families, and community.

Even more exciting than earning another "A" is the remarkable growth our students demonstrated across nearly every accountability measure:

• 🚀 ELA Achievement: +7 points
• 🚀 ELA Learning Gains: +5 points
• 🚀 Bottom Quartile Learning Gains: +3 points
• 🚀 Math Achievement: +4 points
• 🚀 Math Learning Gains: +1 point
• 🚀 Civics Achievement: +7 points
• 🚀 Acceleration: +7 points

These accomplishments did not happen by chance. They are the result of dedicated teachers who inspire excellence, support staff who care deeply for every child, families who partner with us, and students who rise to every challenge. I could not be more proud of what our Discovery community has accomplished together.

While we celebrate these successes, our focus remains firmly on the future. At Discovery Middle School, we believe excellence is not a destination...it is a mindset. Every new school year presents another opportunity to grow, innovate, and ensure that every Explorer reaches his or her full potential.

This year, our theme remains "Together We R.E.L.A.U.N.C.H.!" It represents the values that define who we are as a school community and the commitments we make to one another each day:

• R – Relationships: Build meaningful connections and treat every member of our school family with dignity and respect.
• E – Empathy: Seek to understand others, lead with kindness, and recognize the unique experiences each person brings.
• L – Learning First: Keep student learning at the center of every decision we make.
• A – Attitude Matters: Choose optimism, resilience, and personal responsibility, even when challenges arise.
• U – Uplift Others: Celebrate successes, encourage one another, and make Discovery a place where everyone feels valued.
• N – Normalize Hard Work: Embrace effort, perseverance, and the belief that growth comes through determination.
• C – Check Assumptions: Listen first, remain open-minded, and approach every situation with curiosity before judgment.
• H – Have Fun!: Find joy in learning, celebrate milestones, and create lasting memories together.

When we commit ourselves to these eight principles, we create more than a successful school; we create a community where students thrive academically, grow as leaders, and develop the character needed to succeed long after they leave Discovery Middle School.

Middle school is a time of incredible transformation. Students discover new passions, build lasting friendships, develop resilience, and prepare for the exciting opportunities that await them in high school and beyond. Our mission is to provide an environment where students feel challenged, supported, valued, and inspired every single day.

I encourage every family to stay actively engaged throughout the year. Attend school events, communicate with teachers, celebrate successes, and partner with us as we continue building upon the strong foundation that has made Discovery one of Florida's highest-performing middle schools.

Thank you for entrusting us with your children. It is truly an honor to serve as your principal, and I cannot wait to see all that we accomplish together this year.
