Principal's Message

  Welcome to Discovery Middle School!

Dear Explorer Families,

This is Principal Dr. Fernandez with important report card information. Parents and guardians will be able to access report cards on Tuesday, October 19 via Parent Access. You will need your login username and passcode to access this information. Once you log into Parent Access, you will click on “Portfolio” which is listed on the far left of your screen. There, you will find your child’s report card.

You may also request a hard copy of the report card by scheduling to pick one up through the main office at 407-384-1555.

Thank you, Explorer Families for your continued support of Discovery Middle as “We Prevail in Excellence.”

Dear Explorer Families,

We are observing Unity Spirit Week from Monday, October 18th through Friday, October 22nd. Unity Week is part of National Bullying Prevention Month and was created to unite for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion to prevent students from being bullied.

To support this endeavor, we are asking everyone to participate in the activities:

 - Monday: Kindness Kickoff, wear pink
 - Tuesday: Look Nice, Be Nice, dress to impress for picture day
 - Wednesday: Unity Day, wear orange to prevent bullying and promote kindness, acceptance, and inclusion
 - Thursday: Team up Against Bullying, wear sports apparel
 - Friday: Make Bullying a Thing of the Past, say NO to bullying

Picture Day and Report Cards are on Tuesday, October 19. Also on Tuesday, we have our Theater students performing the play, “Mystery, Mime, and Mayhem” at 7:00 p.m. in the cafeteria. Tickets are available at the door for $5.00.

On Thursday, Oct. 21st our students will receive their second mental and emotional health lesson. The Florida Department of Education approved Rule 6A-1.094121, F.A.C., which requires students in grades 6-12 to receive a minimum of five hours of mental and emotional health instruction each year.
We have monthly fire and assailant drills to prepare our Explorers for such emergencies. Please take time to speak to your child about the importance of taking these drills seriously.
We have found that there are quite a few students who are not checking their grades in Canvas. They are not submitting their assignments, and are not proactively studying for tests. Teachers are beginning new lessons, marking the start of the second grading period. Please assist your child in keeping up with assignments and checking Canvas for continuous updates on grades. Please see the links on how to set parent accounts up at the bottom of this newsletter.
Thank you for your continued support of Discovery Middle as we “Prevail in Excellence.”
