6th Grade

The 6th grade course, World History, covers the contents of early humans through the Fall of Rome.  The content will explore the topics of geography, culture, and history. These topics will include prehistory, Mesopotamia, Egypt, Ancient Greece, China, India, Rome, the Israelites, and the Rise of Christianity. 

7th Grade

The 7th grade course, Civics, focuses on U.S. citizenship, the obligations and responsibilities of citizens and the role they play in our government. Civics also includes the study of local, state and national government. Students will also read a book in class called-Shh! We’re Writing the Constitution.  Below are some free websites that students will use to enrich their understanding of civics topics:

  • Use iCivics to practice and solidify Civics information. Just click on the games and learn to master each one!
  • Use this Civics site to practice for the EOC. On the left are benchmarks. Click on each one for benchmark clarifications and to see practice questions. You will also find vocabulary listed for each benchmark. In the middle of the page is a link to FLVS Practice Civics EOC Test which is another set of practice questions for the EOC.

8th Grade

The 8th grade course, United States History, covers the time period of the late 1600’s-1880.  The content will explore the topics of geography, culture, history and the Civic Core.  These topics will include; Colonial America, Causes of the American Revolution as well as the battles that are associated with it, early government, early presidents, Louisiana Purchase, War of 1812, Westward expansion, Age of Reform, Civil War and Reconstruction.
